Benjamin: the main reason why I wanted to cast Benjamin was because he was one of the few characters that could realistically have the semblances of a father. I needed somebody tall and who could have act as an older person. He didn’t have a British accent for sure, but he had the physical characteristics. Although I now know that he also has a significant role in Abhinav’s IP, he told me that he will be the most productive that he can in both plays. This led me to be really wise with rehearsing and scheduling, without wasting anybody time.
Niklas: when I saw him during the auditions, I saw somebody who was willing to give something. What I saw in him was somebody who, with a good guide, would have given me emotional truth. Moreover, he wasn’t required by a lot of other directors, so he was perfect.
Samantha: she first attracted me with her accent and way of speaking. She is really shy in a cute way, although she as well as a strong personality. I liked her because of how she could have brought an interesting element to the play and be an interesting character to work with.
Amanda: amongst all my actors, she is definitely the one that impressed me the most. She has the physical characteristic to be an adult, young mother (I don’t want to be offensive). She is really sweet, but at the same time she was capable to read the script and personalized it. She is just naturally gifted. I really wanted her to be Helen; also because, as Benjamin, she was one of the few characters I could see being realistically a mother for my play.
Robin: he was a late choice. But a really specific choice. He was more a practical choice, since I knew we would have like to act, but only a small part. He had the accent I was looking for, so he together with Samantha, were the two characters that could directly connect to the context in which the play was set.
